As you are developing your musical skills, look for guitar lesson resources that are suited to your particular interests and level of playing. They may be songbooks, books about music scales and chord theory, or videos and CDs that introduce you to a specific style of guitar playing.
Find a good instructor and then supplement your lessons with these additional educational resources. This is about the most well rounded approach you could have.
