Movable Guitar Chord Charts

You have probably noticed that the above list of Guitar Chord Charts omits several letter names. The tuning of the guitar is such that only certain keys can take advantage of the "easy" chords. The other keys require the use of movable chords, guitar chords that do not use open strings. The value of learning movable chords is that one chord formation can be used in several different keys simply by moving the chord up or down the neck of the guitar. Below is a list of Guitar Chord Charts of several of the standard movable guitar chords.

LEARN HOW TO PLAY GUITAR SOLOS...

Here is the way it works, the note that has a parenthesis around it is the root of the chord. If for example, you need an Eb major chord, you pick a major chord form, notice which string the root is on, then move the chord so that the root is located at an "Eb". As an example, the first major form has the root on string 6. The note Eb is located on the 11th fret of string 6. So you have to move the guitar chord form up to the 11 fret to create Eb major. Perhaps not the best choice since it is so high on the neck. If you use the second form shown, the root is on string 5. The note Eb is located at the 6th fret of string 5. If you use this second Major chord form you need to move it to the 6th fret to create an Eb major chord.
Now, on with the Guitar Chord Charts!

Augmented Guitar Chord Charts

The Augmented triad is an interesting symetrical interval structure. The notes of the triad divide the octave into three segments, each spanning the interval of a major 3rd. Because of this inherent symmetry, any chord tone can be considered the root of the triad. Shown below are four voicings for augmented triads. The last two demonstrate how the same guitar chord can be reused by assigning a different chord tone the role of "root". As an example, as shown in the last three chord voicing (at the third fret) the chord name would be G aug, B aug, and Eb (or D#) aug. All three of the those triads contain the same notes (or the same sounds spelled enharmonically).

DOUBLE YOUR GUITAR PLAYING SPEED!

You can treat the first three guitar chords the same way, any of the chord tones can be considered the root and it is still a valid augmented triad (although obviously it will be an inversion, not root position). Back to the Guitar Chord Charts...
