Two of my dearest friends died as a result of substance abuse. One thing I've noticed about human nature is the tendency we have to admire certain traits in people such as beauty, education, sophistication, eloquence, talent, etc. Celebrity status seems to be a coveted role, even among Christians. As I reflected upon this, I began to wonder if we would be attracted to the person and character of Jesus if he came to us today. He came as a servant. How many servants do you admire? (John 13:2-5, Phillipians 2:5-8) Several years ago, a friend of mine was diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs Disease. Trapped inside her own body and unable to move, she was completley dependent on others for her every need. In spite of all the difficulty and suffering, she remained steadfast in her faith and walk with Jesus. This song was written in loving memory of the inspirational life that she lived. (Mark 4:35-41) Hope was written primarily by my husband James. I added the bridge, harmony and some guitar accompaniment.
