The G Major Scale has one sharp. To discover which note is sharp, simply follow the pattern of whole steps and half-steps of a major scale as previously explained in the Guitar Scales lesson.
Lets start building the scale by first writing down the degrees, letters and major scale pattern for G.
EXAMPLE:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 G A B C D E F G w w h w w w h
Looking at the example above you can see that we need a whole step between the 6th and 7th degree of the scale (E to F). Remember there is always a half-step between the natural notes B/C and E/F on the guitar fretboard. So what do we do when we need to move a whole step from E? We raise the F natural one more 1/2 step and it becomes F#!
G MAJOR = G A B C D E F# G
