The C Sharp Major Scale

The C Sharp Major Scale has 7 sharps. It's easy to remember because all the notes are sharped. Below are the degrees, letters and pattern of whole steps and half-steps needed as explained in the Guitar Scales lesson.

Review Guitar Scales lesson

EXAMPLE:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
C D E F G A B C
w w h w w w h

Remember to retain the sharps from the previous scale which in this case are: C#, D#, E#, F#, G# and A#. The new sharp will always come in at the 7th degree giving us B#. Again, this is where it's easy to get confused. Remember that it is always a half-step from B to C, so when you are playing "B#" you are actually on C! But in this situation, because we are building a scale, it is referred to as B#. Our 7 sharps for this key are:C# D# E# F# G# A# and B#.

C SHARP MAJOR = C# D# E# F# G# A# B# C#
